Sunak is relieved by Nadine Dorries' departure, but the byelection poses risk.

Fears of a challenging byelection and resentment among Conservative backbenchers at the possibility of her angry outbursts appearing on Labour's general election leaflets have subdued Rishi Sunak's joy that Nadine Dorries is finally resigning as an MP.

On Saturday, the former cabinet minister and ardent supporter of Boris Johnson resigned from her seat in the Commons for Mid Bedfordshire, accusing the prime minister of violating Tory ideals and warning him that "history will not judge you kindly."

Johnny Mercer, the defense minister, stated that the party needed to move forward after having "raked over the coals of the Boris Johnson premiership a number of times" and that people were not interested in hearing Dorries' most recent "personal attack" on Sunak.

According to insiders in the government, Sunak was adamant about moving through with preparations for the autumn in an effort to demonstrate to those struggling with the expense of living that a better future is possible.
